January 7, 2019

Getting your website to be on the first page of a google page will depend on whether your provide content that is suitable to your industry as well as helping Google understand when to have you in mind to confused searchers. Search engines want to connect you to the result you want, which is why the content you provide has to be right.

Smart engines are getting smarter and more skilled at producing really specific results, so here are some trends to help get your website ranking high and getting found by your target market.

Mobile First

Mobile devices are now more important to Google, as in 2018 they announced something called ‘Mobile-First Index.’  This means that if you have a desktop and mobile version of your site Google will check the mobile one first and then decide how to rank your site in search results. They also announced something called the ‘Mobile Speed Update’ which means that loading speed is now a factor in how Google calculates the rankings of mobile sites. So, your website needs to be mobile friendly as well as running fast on a mobile. However, if you don’t have a mobile version of your website it will still be indexed, it will just rank lower on the search results.

Quality Content

In the early days of the internet it was easy to get ranked on Google. Any content your released onto the web would help bots to discover your page and then signal to search engines to use your website as a helpful source to other users. However, this year Google has got a lot stricter.

In order to rank high now, you need quality content. In 2018, Googles algorithm update got a lot more advanced and it is now able to evaluate how websites meat the EAT standards, (Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness.)

To get a higher rank now you need to offer your web visitors interesting blog posts and engaging pictures and videos, once you find the format you need for your industry you need to devote time and energy into making new and quality ideas to your content regularly. When adding in this new content, add in internal links to other pages on your website, this means that Google bots can get directed to your material faster, which means that your website is getting noticed by Google.

Website Security

If you use Google Chrome then you will notice that a lock icon will pop up in the corner of the URL when you’re on a website, if a website isn’t safe then it will say ‘Unsecure.’ This is because of a Google update that happened in 2018.

If your website isn’t secure then it drags your ratings down and a higher bounce rate. The only way to fix this is by making your website secure, otherwise your website won’t appear on any Google pages and your bounce rate will be higher as users won’t spend a long time on your website seeing as it isn’t safe.
