Why your Social Media Strategy Isn’t Working

July 5, 2019

Social media is one of the most powerful marketing tools at the moment. If you do your social media right then you can reach and engage with your target audience at a low cost, but some business has already failed before their social media campaign has begun. This is because there are vital elements of their social media strategy that don’t work.

We’ve created a quick guide on some of the most common social media mistakes and how to correct them!

No Strategy

One of the most common reasons for failure is because there is no social media strategy in place.

A strategy is putting a plan in place to achieve a goal, it doesn’t have to be long it just needs to have clear and measurable goals, a method on how you’ll achieve those goals and a brand voice. If you don’t have a strategy, then you will be failing to deliver a message to your target audience.

It’s Not Integrated

A lot of social media campaigns won’t work if it isn’t integrated with your other marketing assets. You need your social media accounts to be tied directly to your website, email campaigns and paid search campaigns so your customers can easily access any of your profiles.

Misunderstanding of the Data

Your social media campaign will bring in a huge amount of data over time, so you need to know how to collect and analyse it. This data will let you know exactly what you are doing right and what you are doing wrong. Success with social media isn’t just about the likes, follows and shares, these are pretty much irrelevant when it comes to achieving your business goals. It would be a huge boost for your campaign if you learn how to use data analyse tools.

Your Strategy is Copied

The most successful social media strategies are ones that are unique to your business and gives your customers an insight to the personality behind your brand. If you copy someone else’s strategy, then then you lose your authenticity.

You Don’t Know your Audience

You need to research your target audience when creating your social media strategy. By understanding who your audience is, what they look like and what interests them then you need to try and engage with them.

Asking your customers questions or looking at the conversations they are having online will help create a picture of your audience. Find out what social media platforms they use the most and what type of posts they might interact with.
