How to Write Blogs that Improve your SEO

Did you know that 91% of web content gets no traffic from Google? Blogging will help boost your brand awareness but if you’re not writing it correctly for SEO then it could miss out on the SEO traffic.

If you want to climb to the top of the search engine result pages (SERPs) then engaging content alone doesn’t help, you need to focus on writing keyword-focused content that attracts website traffic and helps your website climb the SERPs.

Here are some top tips for creating SEO-friendly blog posts:

Identify effective keywords –

Google handles over 40,000 search queries a second, so if you want to out rank your competitors you need to target specific keywords that your customers will be searching to find you.

To identify those keywords, look at your social media platforms that are the most popular with your target audience and see what is trending in your industry, make sure you are constantly monitoring popular industry terms and topics. Remember that your keywords will evolve over time as trends shift, your products change or terminology changes. You will need to conduct your keyword research periodically, so you are focusing on the right keywords for your target audience.

Google Trends can also help you out with keywords that are currently popular. If you see that your searches are starting to decline, then the keywords you have chosen are probably wrong.

If you’re running low on ideas for keywords you can get inspiration from your competition or use different tools to see what keywords you currently rank for.

Integrate those keywords throughout your posts –

When you have a list of target keywords you need to write a blog post focused on one of them, you could start brainstorming these blog topics with your team and decide on a topic that will engage your target audience whilst keeping your buyer personas in mind, so their motivations, challenges, interests etc..

When writing your blog your keywords and natural variations will be interspersed throughout the post, they should appear in these key places:

  • Title

  • Headings and subheadings

  • Meta description

  • Image alt text

  • Throughout the content

Aim for scannable, longer posts –

Humans have an attention span of around 8 seconds, so you would think shorter blog posts would be the best, but search engines actually like longer in-depth blog posts.

The longer your blog post, the greater chance of it appearing at the top of the search engine results, this is because longer posts will rank easily for your target keyword. The more content on your blog, the more clues search engines have to find out what your blog post is about.
