Stop introducing people to your website.

Back when the internet was less populated, introducing people to your website was a personable way to show your appreciation to your users. In the modern day, however, this is simply a waste of space (sorry if that feels harsh).
The truth is, the fight for people’s attention is the most competitive it’s ever been and the online space is only becoming more competitive as time and technology progress.
With low attention spans and high competition, the focus on a strong hook is more important than ever before. This is where the focus for an optimised ‘hero section’ or ‘above the fold’ comes into play.
Hero section/Above the fold – This refers to everything that is visible on your site as it first loads (before you scroll further down the page).
If we use the hero section to welcome users to the site rather than to provide them with information on the services you offer and the value you provide then you’re losing out on a crucial sales opportunity.

When people land on your website, they’ve arrived either because they’ve searched for you directly (in which case they don’t need reminding what site they’re on) or they’ve found your through a search query and chose you over your competitors (in which case they need to be told why you’re the right option).
We also need to look at the SEO implications of using “Welcome to our website” as one of the first pieces of text. Typically, the first piece of text on your website is labelled as your H1 heading (unless you have changed it specifically). Your H1 heading is the most important heading on your website and is what search engines crawl to determine what the site is about. “Welcome to our website” doesn’t provide any useful information to search engines. “Independent Cocktail Bar, Restaurant & Club” provides some great keywords giving a clear indication to search engines what the site is about and where to position this site online.
