The Best and Worst Times to Send an Email Campaign

Timing matters when you are trying to get subscribers to notice and open your emails, so in this blog post we are going to show you when is the best time to send your email campaign.

General Advice

This advice is what most email marketing companies use as they are the ones that are accepted into the email marketing community. These tips work well if you are just starting your email marketing campaign.

  • Always send your email in the daytime, as they won’t get opened if you send them at night.

  • Don’t send any on a Monday, a lot of people receive emails on a Monday after the weekend and it is more likely that they will get deleted straight away.

  • Weekends tend to have a low open rate, this is because most people are out during the weekend.

  • If you’re sending out a campaign about an event it is best to send it 3-5 days before the event. 23% of emails are opened within the first 60 minutes where are some people don’t check them until a day after.

  • Everyone thinks that Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are the best days to send out email campaigns, even Mailchimp has confirmed that Tuesday and Thursday are the two most popular days to send out email campaigns.

  • Most people find that the best time to send out emails is in the middle of the day, especially between 1-3pm. Mailchimp suggests that 2pm is the best time.

Our Results

We have found that the best time to send out emails is on a Thursday between 8-9am. We have also found that other people think the same, even though it is a little early we get over 25% open rates when using this time.

The worst time to send emails is Tuesday and Wednesday between 8-10am. Even though a lot of people think this is the best time we found that sending any email campaigns on these two days gets us a lower open rate. We think this is because a lot of people are getting emails these two days, so people don’t open them. If you want your email opened then we suggest Monday or Friday, as a lot of other companies will send out their email campaigns on a Tuesday or Thursday, so why not beat the rush!
